Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota presents Palm Court Treasures, a light-hearted musical tribute to the romance and elegance of the Edwardian era, November 23, 5:30 pm, outdoors at Historic Spanish Point, 337 N. Tamiami Trail in Osprey. Violinist Chung-Yon Hong and cellist Natalie Helm, both from the Sarasota Orchestra, join pianist Joseph Holt for an evocative program of such familiar favorites as Bach’s Air on the G String, Luigi Boccherini’s Minuet, Leon Jessel’s Parade of the Tin Soldiers, Puccini’s O mio babbino caro and many more. The performance will be followed by a complimentary dessert reception celebrating both the 25th anniversary of Artist Series Concerts and the recent milestone birthday of ASC co-founder Jerry Ross. To ensure the safety of audience members, musicians and staff, in addition to the outdoor setting, all seating will be socially distanced, guests’ temperatures will be taken upon arrival and masks or face coverings will be required. As a further safeguard, there will be no will call and tickets must be purchased in advance. In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors to a socially distanced space at Faith Lutheran Church, 7750 S. Beneva Road, Sarasota. Tickets are $25 and are available online at ArtistSeriesConcerts.org or by calling 941-306-1202, Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Reminiscent of afternoon tea at the Ritz and tea dances held in enchanting courts surrounded by potted palms, the term “Palm Court” remains synonymous with the light music repertoire that became popular in the resorts, spas, bandstands, floral halls and palm courts of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. “Since its birth in the 1890’s right up to the present day, the Palm Court style has continued to charm and entertain music lovers around the world,” says Joseph Holt, director of artist programs for Artist Series Concerts. While the style began as a curious blend of traditional British and European flavors, it has expanded over the years to encompass a wide range of other musical eras and styles, even ballads and film scores from the 1950s. “Simply put, it is light, enjoyable, well-crafted music for anyone who appreciates a good tune,” says Holt. Joining pianist Holt will be violinist Chung-Yon Hong and cellist Natalie Helm, both from the Sarasota Orchestra. They’ll perform a sparkling and eclectic program of tunes that runs the gamut from Bach’s Air on the G String, to Boccherini’s Minuet, Jacob Gade’s famous tango Jealousy, Puccini’s O mio babbino caro and even Adler and Ross’s 1950s hit, Hernando’s Hideaway.

Artist Series Concerts executive director Marcy Miller urges patrons to purchase their tickets early. “Our first outdoor concert on October 26 sold out days prior to the performance and this concert, with its perfect combination of light-hearted musical classics, performed by three superb area musicians amidst the bay front oasis of Historic Spanish Point, is sure to sell out as well. Don’t miss it!”
