In 2008, Gail was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Time and time again, doctors said Gail would not make it, but she proved them wrong. Enduring multiple complications and hospitalizations, Gail continued to fight and never gave up. Her lengthy struggle helped teach family, friends and the many doctors and nurses she met on her cancer journey what ‘courage’ truly means.
The foundation was founded in 2014 by Gail’s son, Sarasota-based developer and entrepreneur, Eric Baird. The Gail Baird Foundation supports initiatives committed to raising awareness, researching and curing ovarian cancer. Eric and his siblings continue his mother’s wishes by providing opportunities for aspiring female entrepreneurs and enriching the lives of seniors and veterans.
