The Arts and Cultural Alliance Announces 2017/18 Culture Collective Season Schedule

The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County’s Culture Collective program has announced its 2017/18 season, beginning on December 16. The Culture Collective gives those ages 21-39 who are interested in the arts the chance to experience Sarasota’s world-class organizations at a discounted rate and exclusive access to pre- or post-show mix-and-mingle events. Memberships are now available and may be purchased here.

Goodwill Manasota presents the ‘Ugly Christmas Sweater Challenge’

Goodwill Manasota is tapping into the whimsical side of the holiday season while working to educate the community about the benefits of the reduce, reuse, recycle movement through its Ugly Christmas Sweater Challenge. Through December 20, community members are encouraged to shop second-hand for sweaters, use the holiday theme and their creativity to decorate their finds, and then post pictures of the resulting attire on social media. Goodwill Manasota is hosting the Ugly Christmas Sweater Challenge on its Facebook page: facebook.com/GoodwillManasota. Submissions will be accepted through December 20, with winners announced on December 22. The winners in three categories – cutest, ugliest, and most creative – will earn a Goodwill gift certificate and bragging rights. The Arts and Cultural Alliance presents the 17th Annual Principals’ Luncheon

Sarasota County principals to gather for recognition of their school’s achievements in arts education.

The Arts and Cultural Alliance of Sarasota County (the Alliance) will hold its annual Principals’ Luncheon on December 6, 2017 from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, 777 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The celebration’s theme is The Arts = Success and will honor Sarasota County school principals for their school’s achievements in arts education for the past year, including awards, performances, major projects and events, programs and more. Choral Singing: An Innovative Approach for Speech & Voice Disorders in Parkinson’s Disease

“Off-Key” Chorale performance scheduled for December 15, 2017

Neuro Challenge Foundation for Parkinson’s, Inc. created a partnership in 2012 with Key Chorale, Sarasota’s Symphonic Chorus, and Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota with the support of the Sarasota Memorial Health Care Center at Clark Road.

This choral group is comprised of people with Parkinson’s, family members, and other interested persons. Led by Key Chorale’s Artistic Director, Joseph Caulkins, with live musical accompaniment by Lee Dougherty Ross, “Off-Key” Chorale provides an opportunity for people with Parkinson’s to improve and strengthen their voices through singing, and provides a fellowship activity for people whose social opportunities are often limited by this disease. The chorale performance for this season will be held December 15th at 4:30pm at The Fountains of Hope Assisted Living & Memory Care Community, 2250 Jesus Way, Sarasota, 34240. The concert is free and open to the public.

On Friday, December 8th, catch Key Chorale’s Maestro escorting a member of the Parkinson’s community as they make their modeling debut in the annual Neuro Challenge Foundation fundraiser fashion show: Cause4Fashion! This event is held at Mattison’s by the Bay, located at 777 North Tamiami Trail, Sarasota, FL at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Center. 5th Annual Celtic Christmas Concert

Benefiting the Sarasota YMCA Safe Children Coalition (Foster Care) 

The City of Dunedin Pipe Band is hosting the 5th annual Celtic Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at 7:00pm at the Sarasota Opera House. The concert will feature the City of Dunedin Pipe Band, local singer Sarah Combs, Isle of Skye Highland Dancers, Davenia McFadden, Riverview High School Kiltie Pipe Band and the Sarasota Military Academy Pipe Band. Tickets for A Celtic Christmas can be purchased online at or at the Sarasota Opera House.
