Description
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is hosting an exhibit by Angela Maria Isaza beginning
January 8 through February 23, 2010.
There will be an opening reception January 10, 2010 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Museum of Botany and the Arts at Selby Gardens.
Isaza has captured the beauty and diversity of tropical and exotic plants found at Selby Gardens using batik, an art painting technique that originated in the East using hot wax, dyes and natural fiber cloth. Flowers, foliage, trees in bloom, plants gracefully growing on the ground, up in the trees, or by the water, are all depicted in original compositions. Created through personal vision, they reflect a mysterious, yet natural feeling of her appreciation and representation of nature.
Isaza’s interest lies in promoting the value and beauty of fragile natural environments. The flora found in the tropical forests of the Andes Mountains of Colombia, her native country, has been the primary inspiration for her creations. Florida’s native wild plants and flowers have also served to inspire her work.
Come explore the beauty and wonder of her batiks and the Gardens who have inspired them!
